Honestly, it's been challenging to reconcile my passion for the events industry with my deep love for the natural environment. The constant greenwashing rhetoric around sustainability can be exhausting.
Let's address the elephant in the room: the events sector is notoriously wasteful, and transforming it will require significant effort and a major mindset shift. I am proud to facilitate the WAO Better Events Collective here in Wānaka. Our goal is to foster collaboration and drive change within the events industry, beginning with our local community and extending to the rest of Aotearoa, New Zealand, and hopefully beyond.
By incorporating green technologies, promoting ethical sourcing, encouraging behaviour change, educating clients, and focusing on waste minimisation, we aim to set a benchmark for responsible event management.
Over time, I hope more clients will embrace these values.
Community is something that is hugely important to me; it’s why we have chosen to live where we do. I’ve worked across a variety of roles in the tourism and hospitality sector in Wānaka and Queenstown and am proud to have helped clients and visitors feel welcome, valued and connected to this amazing place that we call home.
This core value extends into my professional sphere, creating events across the globe that resonate within my clients’ own communities, wherever they may be.
Central to my approach is ensuring equitable treatment and fair compensation for all vendors throughout the supply chain, promoting inclusivity, decent working conditions, and community prosperity. I collaborate with clients and vendors who share our commitment to social responsibility.
Establishing a healthy work-life balance is vital for me and, frankly, it’s taken a while to get there. Helping my clients to do the same is an important part of my events work. Life is short. If I can make your life easier and your work load lighter, I’ve hit the mark.
